Alternatives

Alternatives is a non-governmental organization for international solidarity and development, founded in 1994.

Our vision

Alternatives knows that another world is possible, it can be created through the construction of sustainable societies. This conviction is borne through its member’s engagement, experiences and values, as well as those of the social movements to which it belongs.

It is a world in which women, men and children can live in dignity and respect and equitably share the power and resources necessary to live, and grow.

  • It is a world respectful of the diversity of peoples and individuals, based on human, civil, economic, social and cultural rights principles for all.
  • It is a world of solidarity, cooperation, respect for the environment, peace and participative democracy.
  • This world is founded on just economic and social development, sustainable and democratic, at local, national and global levels.

Our mission

Our strength comes from our vision and our considerable experience at the national and international levels. Alternatives is an organization that works for solidarity, justice and equity, here and elsewhere in the world.

Our mission aims to network, promote and build innovative initiatives created by social movements fighting for economic, social, political, cultural and environmental rights.

Alternatives seeks to strengthen citizen action and contribute to social movements in their efforts to construct sustainable societies.

Alternatives benefits from the support of important figures from diverse fields: culture and information - Margaret Atwood, Gil Courtemanche, Judy Rebick, Arian Émond and writer Stanley Péan. As well as political figures such as Madeleine Parent, Françoise David, and Amir Khadir, and internationally : Archbiship Desmond Tutu, Asmaa Janhangir and Noam Chomsky.

Alternatives publishes Alternatives Journal and is member of 8 other international organizations of the Alternatives International federation.
